Window Magic Contributes to Asia’s Largest Urban Redevelopment Project for Residential Flats at BDD Chawls, Worli, Mumbai
Mumbai, 14th May : Window Magic, one of India’s leading fenestration brands, has been associated with the massive redevelopment of the historic Bombay Development Department (BDD) Chawls in Worli, Mumbai, widely regarded as Asia’s largest urban redevelopment project. Originally constructed in the 1920s, the BDD Chawls are being transformed into modern high-rise residential towers, significantly upgrading the living standards of thousands of residents. The project is being executed by Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
As part of the ambitious redevelopment initiative led by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, the ageing low-rise chawls- consisting of compact 150- 160 sq. ft. units are being redeveloped into 33 modern residential towers rising up to 40 floors each. The redevelopment will create 8,976 modern housing units, providing improved infrastructure, safety, and living conditions for residents in the heart of Mumbai.
Window Magic is contributing significantly to the project by supplying and installing over 61,875 aluminium window units, ensuring durability, energy efficiency, and modern aesthetics that complement the contemporary design of the towers. Located in Worli, one of Mumbai’s prime urban districts, the redevelopment is being executed in phases. Phase 1, consisting of 8 towers, is scheduled for completion by May 2026, while Phase 2, comprising 25 towers, is tentatively expected to be completed by April 2030.
